Emerson Auditorium in Palamountain Hall at Skidmore College.
The Skidmore Education Studies Department and the Scribner Library are hosting a panel discussion to continue a discussion on legislation being proposed and passed to prevent book banning and censorship in schools and libraries. This is a followup event after seeing a screening of the documentary The Librarians.
Panelists will share how state legislation for libraries and schools gets passed, what sort of advocacy libraries and schools can do to retain and promote the freedom to read, and what key education/library legislation people should be following right now.
Panelists:
Justin Harrison, Attorney for the NYCLU (state affiliate of the ACLU)
Jennifer Coffey, Associate General Counsel for New York State United Teachers
Kathleen Gundrum, Executive Director of the Capital District Library Council
This panel is open to the public. Light refreshments will be served.
Note: This event is not sponsored by the League of Women Voters, but we include it in our calendar because we believe it will be of interest to our members.
