"Closing the Loopholes: How Our Current Sexual Assault Laws Fail Us"

Speakers: Damara Fredette, League member and Capitol Region attorney, and Kathy Donnellan, Outreach Coordinator for Wellspring, the designated Rape Crisis Center for Saratoga County

The Women’s Rights Action Committee has organized a program on New York State’s current rape laws and victim services. While the rape cases in the news prompted this program, we are NOT going to be discussing specific cases. The focus will be on the current law, the NY Senate-introduced bills redefining "Physically helpless," and pros and cons of the current law and proposed changes. The representative from Wellspring will help us understand the available Victim Services in Saratoga County, how they coordinate with the Office of Victim Services, how many women they help per year and how the rape kit backlog affects victims.

Venue: Will be announced soon!
