Meetup - Introduction to Braver Angels

Virtual Event – Online on Zoom

Please register in advance for this free program

Americans on opposite sides of the political spectrum don’t only disagree on issues — they increasingly dislike one another. This growing partisan animosity is the crisis of our time and threatens our nation.

Braver Angels exists to address this challenge

The goal of this Meetup is to introduce attendees to the concepts and purpose of Braver Angels. Why? Separate groups that increasingly do not know, or interact with one another, coarsen public debate, produce policy gridlock, shrink our capacity for goodwill and harm our family and personal relationships.

The Braver Angels organization runs workshops, debates, and other events where "red" (conservative) and "blue" (liberal) participants attempt to better understand one another's positions and discover their shared values.

Braver Angles featured on the Sunday Morning News Program: https://www.cbsnews.com/video/finding-common-ground-in-a-polarized-america/

Overview of the meetup:

  • Short video that talks about the first Braver Angels workshop

  • Breakout rooms with facilitators to discuss video

  • Participate in Braver Angels “Depolarizing Within” eLearning course*

  • Breakout rooms with facilitators to discuss reactions to course

  • Debrief with entire group

*The Depolarizing Within Online Course is designed to foster skills to help you lessen the effects of polarization when you encounter them in your political conversations. Note that by "polarization," we are not referring to healthy disagreements over issues or philosophy. We are talking about how we regard and talk about large groups of ordinary people on the other side of the political aisle.
