1859—born Carrie Lane in Ripon, Wisconsin
1880—graduated from Iowa State College
1883—first female Superintendent of schools
1885—married editor and publisher Leo Chapman
1886—Leo died and she joined the National American Woman Suffrage Association (NAWSA)
1890—was a delegate to NAWSA and married George Catt (he died in 1905)
1910—became president of NAWSA and devised the “winning plan” for passage of the 19th Amendment
1919—creates the League of Women Voters of NYS, following passage of women’s suffrage in NYS
1920—creates the League of Women Voters of the United States, following passage of the 19th Amendment
